Write down the obligation and account consequences before holding a short option through expiration or a market-moving event.
- Contract: underlying, type, strike, expiration, style, multiplier.
- Obligation: deliver shares, purchase shares, or review another term.
- Capacity: cash, shares, buying power, margin, liquidity.
- Timing: notifications, cutoffs, settlement, after-hours movement.
- Position: every leg and what happens if one is assigned.
- Source: official documentation and review date.
Checking a box does not make a position appropriate; it makes assumptions visible.
