Options assignment FAQ

Can a short option be assigned before expiration?

Some contracts permit exercise before expiration. Timing depends on the holder, contract, clearing process, and brokerage.

Does in-the-money guarantee assignment?

No. It can affect decisions but is not a guarantee for a particular account.

What happens to a spread if one leg is assigned?

The short obligation can be created independently of the long leg. Review the remaining exposure under current broker procedures.
